WestCare Outreach Specialist/Crisis Counselor in Marathon, Florida

SUMMARY:

five (5) month temporary grant to assist Monroe residents following Hurricane Irma with linkages to services needed

● Works with individuals, families, and groups to provide outreach, emotional support, individual and group crisis counseling, public education, and referrals when needed. ● Is synonymous with term “outreach worker.” ● Represents program in the community and networks with other agencies and partners to ensure needs of survivors are met. ● Provides presentations to community groups on disaster reactions, coping skills, stress management, and the Crisis Counseling program. ● May use the mobile application to complete data forms

● Ability to engage and motivate residents through effective oral communication. ● Written communication skills necessary to maintain respective resident files and records of referrals. ● Ability to communicate effective messages of high risk behavior reduction through individual educational sessions. ● Understanding of issues related to cultural identity, ethnic background, age, developmental level, gender and sexual orientation in prevention, intervention and treatment. ● Understanding of HIPAA, Professional Ethics, Consumer Rights and Confidentiality ● Demonstrates ability to work effectively with culturally diverse staff and consumers ● Demonstrated respect for an individual’s cultural and ethnic values when interacting with them

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS GED or High Diploma Familiarity with Monroe county Must have reliable transportation to travel throughout the county/Location may vary Must be able to pass background and drug screening

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

While performing this job the employee is regularly required to understand, communicate (both verbally and in writing) and collaborate effectively and with precision, given the time constraints of each task. The employee is required to concentrate and expend prolonged mental effort with limited opportunity for breaks. The employee must possess sufficient means of independent mobility.
